Cash Drawer

What are Cash Drawers?

Cash Drawers hold cash given in payment and any receipts / vouchers that need to be kept safe until cash up time. They are connected directly to a till and are opened automatically by the till when a cash payment is taken.

Recommendation

Cash drawers get their power from the till, and only when being prompted to open by the till so no action required.

Dallas Key readers get their power from the PC, and only when actually being used so no action required

Customer Displays

What are Customer Displays?

Customer Displays are optional guest facing screens attached to a POS that will show the order being rung up or additional content like promotions or advertising depending on configuration.

Recommendation

Customer Displays draw power from the till (whichever model is installed) and cannot be turned off separately from the till. Is it also not possible to adjust brightness or other settings to reduce power use.

Barcode Scanners

What are Barcode Scanners?

Barcode scanners can be used at Front of House to scan barcodes or QR codes. This can be used to ring up items with codes printed on labels or in a catalogues or to scan vouchers, loyalty cards or other promotional material. They may also be used to help count stock in the stock room.

Recommendations

Barcode scanners usually have their own power supply but would need turned off at the source. Usage should be minimal so recommendation is to leave plugged in unless easy to do so.

Host Tablets / Laptops

What are Host Tablets / Laptops?

Restaurants and other Establishments that use LiveRES products may have a dedicated tablet or laptop running the Tables or Events websites which they can use to seat guests or check booking status.

Recommendation

If the device is not used for any other function, it is safe to power it off while not in use. Tables and Events websites will resume once the device is ‘awake’ and connected to the internet. In the case of windows laptops, if it is in use every day you may prefer to configure Sleep or Hibernation mode instead of powering it off every day. This can be done in Settings > Power & Sleep.
